It’s been a long week for my honey – holiday weeks are always crazy in the grocery industry. The perfect solution was a date night in. Apps and drinks were on the menu:
– A few of our favorite cheeses: whiskey cheddar, manchego and 5-year gouda
– Caprese skewers: tomato, mozzarella and basil drizzled with EVOO and balsamic
– Spicy mango shrimp: ginger sauteed shrimp, fresh mango, red onion, jalapeno and lime
– martinis and a vodka tonic
Sometimes you need comfort food. Like today, when you are one day away from June, with rain in the skies and temperatures not willing to pass the low 60’s. A perfect night for rich flavors, all from the grill. Our grill has a side burner, so I don’t have to split time between the kitchen and patio, I can do all of my cooking in one place. Tonight, dinner was sautéd mushrooms with onions, garlic and lemon, a sauce of fig and ginger compote, balsamic vinegar, chicken broth and my favorite, heavy whipping cream. With a grilled medley of romaine, asparagus and radishes with blue cheese dressing on the side and a glass of Malbec, this meal is a WINNER.
Everyone deserves a reward at the end of a long, productive day. Okay, so my reward isn’t the $2 million boat sitting in front of us, but the view is priceless! A little happy hour at Daniel’s Broiler on Lake Union with this view can’t be beat.
Thursday night we decided to mix it up and head to Issaquah for happy hour instead of one of our usual haunts in Bellevue. It was a bit of a rough week and we needed to have a little fun and reconnect. We ended up heading to Pogacha – and were so glad we did! We showed up a little after 6:30pm and were pleasantly surprised to find out happy hour runs all night on Thursday. We enjoyed the roasted red pepper hummus, chicken quesadilla, herbed wings and a green salad. We topped it off with wine and beer and still walked away with money in the bank… all in all a great night!
